Research data supports that red light therapy can be hugely beneficial for helping to reduce scarring. Ideally treatment should begin immediately, whilst collagen is being deposited to heal the wound.
The optimal window for healing and biostimulation for superficial tissue (skin) is between 2 and 10 joules/cm2
Skin rejuvenation and wound healing have much in common because both involve cell proliferation and the deposition of collagen and the remodelling of the Extracellular Matrix. But wound healing begins with inflammation. Studies support that LED light therapy can help to speed up the inflammatory phase, and reduce the overall time for healing.
Pulsed light is even more beneficial than regular red light in reducing the inflammatory response, enhancing cell proliferation and collagen deposition and wound contraction in the repair process.
To reduce scarring and accelerate healing, we would recommend double dosing in the days immediately following surgery, for up to two weeks. We recommend one session in the morning and one early evening (ideally 5-6PM). Each session should not exceed the optimal dosing window of 2-10 joules/cm2.
Rooibos also supports wound healing - both red and green rooibos have wound healing properties but support distinct roles in the healing process. Red rooibos is pro-inflammatory and can help kick-start the healing process. Green rooibos, on the other hand, is not pro-inflammatory and contributes greatly to the latter stages of healing, in the tissue remodeling phase. Once your wound has closed, we would highly recommend using both our Green Rooibos Atomizer and Green Rooibos Serum around the wound to further accelerate healing.
